A royal chapel built in the Gothic style, Sainte-Chapelle is located within the medieval Palais de la Cité on the Île de la Cité in the River Seine, Paris. Construction started after 1238, and the chapel was consecrated on 26 April 1248. It served as part of the residence of the Kings of France until the 14th century.
The chapel is a prime example of the Rayonnant phase of Gothic architecture, noted for its extensive and intricate stained glass windows that fill the upper chapel with colored light. These windows depict biblical scenes and are a significant feature of the building’s design and historical importance.
